A Comparative Study of Syntactic Structures of News Titles In The Jakarta Post Online and The Straits Times Online

This study intends to discuss the syntactic structures used by the news titles in The Jakarta Post online and The Straits Times online. Concerning with this matter, the study focuses on the syntactic structures that shows the formula elements. Hence, the types, similarities, and differences syntactic structures are the main discussion of this study.
This study uses descriptive qualitative design. The technique used in data collection is ‘content analysis’. The writer is analyzed by herself. While data collection uses content analysis. Data analysis uses interactive model analysis.
The conclusion of this study is The Jakarta Post online and The Straits Times online have three types of syntactic structures; structure of predication, structure of modification, and structure of coordination. Structure of complementation is not found among them. The similarities of syntactic structures both newspapers use structure of modification, structure of predication, and structure of coordination while there is no differences of syntactic structures in both newspapers. The similarities and differences of syntactic structure can also be found in their formula elements.
