Abstract
Holilulloh. 14.05.111.00.113. Women’s Struggle for Social Equality in Aranya Johar’s Poem “A Brown Girl Guide to Gender. Thesis. English Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Sciences, University of Trunojoyo Madura. Advisor: Imron Wakhid Harits, S.S., M.Pd., Ph.D.
Social situations that happen in society become an effective way to be a great topic in literary work. The correlation between them is a reflection of feminism. According to Linda Gordon (1979:107) feminism as "an analysis of women's subordinations for the purpose of figuring out how to change it. For Gordon, feminism also means "sharing in an impulse to increase the power and autonomy of women in their families, communities, and/or society”. However, this study uses a poem as source of data.
This study focuses on the representation of Indian Women in Aranya Johar’s poem A Brown Girl’s Guide to Gender. The purpose of this study is to depict the representation of Indian Women conflict with the social inequality in the poem. The study applies descriptive qualitative research and the theory of feminisme by Linda Gordon and Tyson. In the data analysis, the writer analyses Indian Women conflicts which happened to the main character life, Aranya Johar’s and Indian Women’s experiences. The study finds out what Indian Women want to be freedom and show us what kind of freedom that they want.
