This study focuses on the compliment utterances that are found in the fault in our stars movie. This study aims to explain the types of compliment utterances which are taken from the movie. It also aims to explain what the types of compliment responses are and what the factors of compliment are. In analyzing the data, this study uses Herbert (1990) theory. Moreover, this study is conducted by using a qualitative research because the data are in the form of utterances. The data of this study are the compliment utterances which are taken from The Fault in Our Stars Movie. In the findings, the writer finds 19 data. The writer finds types of compliment, 12 data which are included into Compliment on Skills/ Abilities, 3 Compliment on Appearance, and 4 Compliment on Possessions. The writer also finds types of compliment responses, 9 data which are included into Appreciation Token, 2 Comment History, 2 No Acknowledgement, 1 Comment Acceptance, 1 Praise Upgrade, 3 Dissagreement, 1 Questioning. The writer also finds the factors of compliment, 1 data which are included into Thanking, 1 Apologizing, 4 Flatter, 4 Starting Conversation, 6 Increased Consolidation, and 3 Reinforcement of Solidarity.
