The aims of this study are to find the differences between the narrative elements on the novel and film in The Maze Runner: The Death Cure. These studies are usually addressed at bestselling and popular books or novels where the literary style can be adapted to a screen, however there are some adaptation processes that allow the results to be much different from the original. The writer applies the theory of adaptation by Linda Hutcheon to analyze the narrative elements that would change.
This study used qualitative research because the data are in the form of words. The data are the narrator’s narration, character utterances and the narrative elements of The Death Cure film which are taken through scanning and skimming reading. The data analysis was done by classifying the narrative element, discussing the findings, and concluding.
The result of the study revealed the narrative elements differences between the novel and the film of The Death Cure. Besides that, to understand how the literary style in a novel is represented and adapted into a film. The writer also finds out theme, plot, character and characterization, point of view, and style and tone of narrative that might be changed between the novel and the film, for example, it has additional story and character.
