A STUDY OF EPITHET IN SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE MOVIE

ABSTRACT

This study focuses on the types of epithet and the types of implicit meaning found Shakespeare in Love movie. This study aims to explain the types of epithet and types of implicit meaning that found in Shakespeare in Love movie.
In addition, to analyze the data, this study uses the theory proposed by Galperin (1981) and the types of implicit meaning proposed by Larson (1984). This study is conducted by applying a qualitative research design since the data is in form of words. The data of this study are utterances of all characters in Shakespeare in Love movie which contain the epithet. The data are collected by using content analysis method.
In the finding, the writer found 32 data as the types of epithet. The writer found the structural types of epithet which is divided into 11 data included as reserved epithet, 11 data included as simple epithet, 5 data included as phrase epithet, 2 included as compound epithet and 3 data as string epithet. The last, the writer found types of implicit meaning, they are 21 data as implicit referential meaning, 8 data as implicit organizational meaning and 3 data as implicit situational meaning.
