MIA'S ANXIETY IN GAYLE FORMAN "IF I STAY": PSYCHOANALYSIS APPROACH

This study is intended to explain about the kind of anxiety that experienced by the main character. Focusing on the matters, this study focuses on the analysis of the utterances and author’s narration of the characters which is related to Sigmund Freud theory. Its psychoanalysis theory that focus on anxietywhich is portrayed by Mia’s character.
Furthermore, this study is established by using qualitative method, because the key instruments of this study is the writer and the data are described in the form of words. Therefore, the utterances, and the author’s narrations according to the research problems are analyzed to show the kind of anxiety. Hence, the data collection is done simultaneously with the data analysis.
Based on theanalysis, it can be concluded that, 1) in Gayle Forman If I Stay, there are two types of anxiety which experienced by the main charater. 2) The way main character overcomes her anxiety consist of repression, regression and fixation.
