A STUDY OF VERB SITUATION IN GRIMM'S TALE COMPILATION

This study aims to analyze the types of verbs situation and the roles of verb aspects related to situation in Grimm’s tale compilation. The data are identified and analyzed based on the theory of verb situation proposed by Saeed (2009) and Sumarlam (2004).
This study is conducted by applying a qualitative research design proposed by Bogdan and Biklen (1982). The data of this study are phrases and sentences that can be included in verb situation. The data are collected by using content analysis which is proposed by Mahsun (2007). In analyzing the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994).
In findings, the writer finds 41 data that come from 25 data in Snow White and 16 data in Cinderella. Dynamic verb has found 219 data that belong to 99 data in Snow White, and 120 data in Cinderella. The 99 data in Snow White come from durative (89), punctual (4), atelic (4), and Telic (2). The 120 data in Cinderella come from durative (106), punctual (9), Atelic (2), and Telic (3). The writer also find some roles of verb aspect situation which are found in both Grimm’s tale compilation. In Cinderella, Inchoative aspect has 10 data, Progressive aspect has 3 data, Semelfaktif aspect has 7 data, Habitual has 1 data, Commutative aspect has 2 data, Continuous aspect has 1 data, Durative aspect has 93 data, and Perspective aspect has 8 data. In Snow White, Inchoative aspect has 24 data, Progressive aspect has 7 data, Semelfaktif aspect has 2 data, Durative aspect has 66 data, and Perspective aspect has 11 data. However, there are some roles which are not found in both Grimm’s tale compilation. In Cinderella, the writer does not find iterative aspect, and repetitive aspect. In Snow White, the writer does not find iterative, habitual, continuous, and repetitive aspect.
