AN ANALYSIS OF EUPHEMISM IN PITCH PERFECT 3 MOVIE

This study aimed to explain the devices and styles of euphemistic
expressions which are found in Pitch Perfect 3 Movie. In analyzing the data, the
writer uses Burridge’s theory (2012) for the devices and Joos theory (1976) for the
styles. The reason why the writer used this topic to be analyze is because the use
of euphemism is common which is, to some extent, intended messages are not
always well delivered.
The data were collected by using content analysis method proposed by
Kothari (2004) and analyzed by using interactive model analysis proposed by
Miles and Huberman (1994). The writer also used descriptive qualitative research
design, the data of this study are explained descriptively which suit with devices
and styles relate to the statements of the problem as have shown in the form of
words, phrases, and sentences.
The result show that the devices of euphemistic expressions in Pitch
Perfect 3 Movie contain of : Metaphor (13), Circumlocution (5), Part-for-whole
(1), Whole-for-part (1), and Internal and External Borrowing (1). Meanwhile, the
styles of euphemistic expressions contains of: Frozen style (2), Formal style (4),
Consultative style (4), Casual style (8), and Intimate style (3).
