A study of metaphor in David Lehman`s Poem

This study focuses on the Metaphor words that are found in David Lehman`s Poem. This study aims to explain the types of Metaphor words which are taken from the Poems. It also aims to explain why the data become Metaphor.
In addition to analyze the data, this study uses theory metaphor that is role is proposed by Hurford (2007). Moreover, this study is conducted by using a qualitative research because the data are in the form of words. The data of this study are the Mettaphor words which are taken from twenty five Poems. The method of collecting data in this study is conducted by using observation method through note taking technique and to analyze the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis.
In the findings, the writer finds 40 data. The writer finds three types of Metaphor, 23 data which are included into Structural Metaphor, 3 data which are included into Orientational Metaphor and 14 data are included ontological Metaphor. The writer also finds 40 functions that make the words become Metaphor. Those are power to structure (12 data), power to options (5 data), power of reason (15 data), power of evaluation (6 data), and power of being there (2 data).
