AN ANALYSIS OF ILLOCUTIONARY ACT IN "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN DEAD MEN TELL NO TALE" MOVIE

This study focuses on illocutionary act occurs in dialogue between characters, in Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales Movie. The source of data is the dialogue between the characters, and the data of this study is the utterance of characters that contain illocutionary act. This study aims to find out the types and functions of illocutionary act occur in dialogue between characters of Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales Movie.
This study conducted by descriptive qualitative research design proposed by Bogdan and Biklen (1982). The research instrument in this study is the writer himself. The data is collected by using observation method proposed by Kothari (2004). Interactive data analysis method is used in data analysis proposed by Miles and Huberman (1994).
The writer obtains 25 types of illocutionary act. The 25 data are divided into 9 data of representative, 1 data of commissive, 9 data of directive, 2 data of declarative, and 4 data of expressive. The writer also finds 25 data of the functions of illocutionary act in the movie titled “pirates of the carribean dead men tell no tales”. The competitive functions is found 9 data, the convivial function is found 4 data, the collaborative function is found 11 data, and the conflictive function is found 1 data.
