An Analysis of Euphemism in Bruno Marss Album Entitled 24K Magic

The purpose of this study is to find out the type of euphemism and to describe the semantic change that occur in euphemistic expressions found in song lyrics in Bruno Mars’s album entitled 24K Magic. The writer used Allan & Burridge (1991) theory for the types of euphemism and O’Grady (1996) theory for the types of semantic change. This study was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method through written data form of words, phrases sentences. In collecting data the author used the documentation method, where the song lyrics of Bruno Mars’s album entitled 24K Magic the source of data. As result of the research the writer found types of euphemism in 24K Magic album, those are : Metaphor, Rhyming Slang, Remodelling, Circumlocution, Omission, Subtitution – Metonymy, Hyperbole, Understatement, Euphemism through Borrowing. For the semantic change in euphemistic term in 24K Magic album, the writer found 2 types : Semantic Broadening and Semantic Narrowing.
