Abstract
Fillah Davincha Adriana. 21.05.111.00.117. English Literature Study Program. An Analysis of The Pyschological Impact of Ryle Kincaids Trauma in Colleen Hoovers It Ends With Us: A Psychoanalysis Study. Advisor: Prof. Suryo Tri Saksono. This study aims to determine the psychological impact of the trauma experienced by the character Ryle Kincaid well the factors that influence his trauma in the novel It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. Using Sigmund Freuds psychoanalytic theory the theoretical foundation, this study explores the impacts of trauma affects Ryles behavior, emotional responses, and the factors that influence trauma. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method to analyze the psychological dimensions of the character Ryle Kincaid in It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. The data is gathered through a close reading of the novel, allowing for a deep exploration of the character’s behavior, thoughts, and emotional responses. This textual analysis is further supported by secondary sources, including scholarly works on trauma theory and psychoanalysis, particularly those grounded in Sigmund Freud’s framework. The results show three main psychological impacts of Ryles trauma, namely the unconscious, repetition compulsion, and anxiety. These impacts are reflected through violent behavior, emotional instability, and recurring guilt. Analysis shows that Ryles trauma is rooted in a tragic childhood experience, when he accidentally shot his younger brother to death. The trauma re-emerged in his adult life through actions that harmed himself and others. The study concludes that unresolved trauma can disrupt the emotional and psychological balance of a person. This research confirms the long-term impact of childhood trauma and the relevance of psychoanalytic theory in literary character analysis.
