A Study of English Idioms Translation in Engineering Book “Schaum’s Outline of Theory and Problems of Analog and Digital Communications” And Its Translation

This study focuses on the idiom translations found in engineering book “Schaum’s Outline of Theory and Problems of Analog and Digital Communications”. This study aims to explain to the types of idiom translations which are taken from engineering book “Komunikasi Analog Dan Digital”. It is also aims to explain the method and the shift of idiom translations.
In addition to analyze the data, this study uses three theories. Those are Lim (2004), Newmark (1988), and Catford (1986). This study is conducted by using a qualitative research because the data in the form of words. The data of this study are the idioms found on engineering book “Analog and Digital Communications”. The method of collecting the data in this study is contextual analysis. To analyze the data, the writer uses the collected the words or phrase of English idioms. Then, organize the data.
In the findings, the writer found 22 data. The data can be classified into three of idioms translation. Those are phrasal verb idiom with 12 data, idiom with preposition with 5 data, and idiom with comparison with 5 data. While the translation method of idiom that are classified into four method, that are literal translation with 10 data, free translation with 7 data, and communicative translation with 4 data.
