AN ANALYSIS ENGLISH-INDONESIAN SUBTITLING STRATEGIES AND READABILITY IN BOMB CITY MOVIE

Translation is the process of converting the meaning of a written text from one language to another. In other words, translation is restating ideas from one language to another. The data of this study is the subtitle text that contains subtitling strategies and readability in Bomb City movie.rnThis study aims to determine the types of subtitling strategies and readability in Bomb City movie. The writer has found eight subtitling strategies: expansion, paraphrase, transfer, imitation, transcription, condensation, decimation, and deletion. Two types of readability were found: high readability and medium readability. The data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method. While, readability using a questionnaire to prove the quality of the subtitles in the Bomb City movie.rnThe writer found eight types of subtitling strategies: an expansion found 2 data, paraphrase found 12 data, transfer found 17 data, imitation found 5 data, transcription 1 data, condensation 1 data, decimation 6 data and deletion 4 data. Thus, the total data found amounted to 48 data. Then, the readability was assessed using a questionnaire involving 15 respondents from the English study program. The data found 43 included in high readability and 5 data included in medium readability. Thus, the total data found amounted to 48 data. This study found that the subtitling strategies that dominate and are often used in Bomb City movies are transfer types. Furthermore, in terms of readability, a high readability type was found to dominate the study result.
