AN ANALYSIS OF LEXICAL COHESION FOUND IN THE LYRICS OF ALAN WALKER’S SONGS ON DIFFERENT WORLD ALBUM

The objective of this study was to describe the types of lexical cohesion in Alan Walker's selected song lyrics and to find their functions in the selected song lyrics. This study used a qualitative design and used Alan Walker’s song lyrics in Different World Album, namely Faded, Alone, All Falls Down, Darkside, Sing Me to Sleep, Different World, and Lily. The writer used theory the proposed by Paltridge (2006) to analyze the types of lexical cohesion and used the theory proposed by Tanskanen (2006) to analyze the functions of lexical cohesion. The result of this study shows that the types of lexical cohesion found in this study are 19 data included a repetition, 2 data included an antonymy, 1 data included meronymy. Meanwhile, the functions of lexical cohesion in the lyrics Alan Walker's song in Different World Album consist of 18 data to emphasize the meaning, 3 data to contrast the meaning, and 1 data to give significant detail specification in the lyrics of the song. In addition, the writer found that the function of lexical cohesion in this song also to convince, to persuade, to express the singer's emotion and to give the information to the listener and readers through the lyrics of the song.
