AN ANALYSIS OF SAKALANGKONG EXPRESSIONS USED BY SMP AL-GHAZALI STUDENTS

Abstract
This study aims to explain the functions of thanking expression of sakalangkong and the response types expressed by SMP AL-Ghazali students. This study uses the theory proposed by Aijmer, K (1996). This study is conducted by applying qualitative research design. The data of this study are the utterances of the students found in SMP Al-Ghazali. The data were collected by using observation method. To analyze the data, the writer used interactive data analysis. The result of this study shows that there are 24 data which have 7 of 10 thanking expression functions of sakalangkong. Acknowledging a major favour function is mostly found in the list of data. The writer also found 24 response types of thanking expression of sakalangkong. Most of data can be classified as minimizing a favour response category expressed by the students of SMP Al-Ghazali.
