A STUDY OF CONVERSATIONAL STYLES IN 'TINKER BELL' MOVIE SERIES

This study aims to explain the types of conversational style and also the elements of language functions which are found in Tinker Bell Movie Series. This study uses the theory of Tannen (2005) and Yule (1996) to analyze the types of conversational styles, and Cook’s (1989) theory to analyze the elements of language function which is found in the movie.
This study uses qualitative approach. The sources of data are the Tinker Bell movie series; two series. The data of this study are the utterances of the characters which contain conversational styles and the elements of language functions. The research instrument of this study is the writer herself. The method of collecting data is content analysis. The data is analyzed by applying interactive model analysis.
The findings of the study are: 1) There are two types of conversational stylesin Tinker Bell movie series namely high involvement style (20 data) and high considerateness style (10 data). 2) There are four elements of language functions consist the emotive function (14 data), the directive function (5 data), the phatic function (4 data), and the referential function (7 data).
