This study is concerned with phatic communion. This study analyzed the forms of Phatic communion and the functions of phatic communion in movie entitled Fast and Furious 7. it used Jean Aitchison’s (1996) theory to analyzed the phatic communion in Fast and Furious 7 Movie.
This study used descriptive qualitative design. The source of data was Fast and Furious 7 Movie. The data were sentences uttered by all characters in Fast and Furious 7 Movie that contain phatic communion. The main instrument in collecting, classifying, and analyzing the data was the writer himself. The method to collect the data was content analysis. The method to analyze the data was interactive data analysis.
The researcher found 26 data. The researcher found four forms of phatic communion, 4 data which are included into ritual words, commonly is greeting, 2 data are included into standard topic of conversation, 6 data included into supportive chat, 14 data are included into meaningless words and 26 data also included three function of phatic communion there are propitiatory has 6 of data, exploratory has 13 of data and initiatory has 7 of data.
