A STUDY OF LEXEMIC IDIOM IN A BOY AND A BEAR IN A BOAT SHORT STORY

This study focuses on the lexemic idioms that are found in A Boy And A
Bear In A Boat Short Story. This study aims to explain the types of lexemic
idioms which are taken from A Boy And A Bear In A Boat Short Story. It also
aims to explain the functions of idioms.
In addition to analyze the data, this study uses two theories. Those are
Makkai (1972) and Cermak (2007). This study is conducted by using a qualitative
research because the data are in the form of words. The data of this study are all
lexemic idioms which are taken from the narration and the utterance in A Boy And
A Bear In A Boat Short Story. The method of collecting data in this study is
content analysis. To analyze the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis.
In the findings, the writer found 393 data. The data can be classified into
eight types of lexemic idioms. Those are phrasal verb idiom (344 data), tourned
idiom (3 data), irreversible binominal idiom (irreversible idiomatic binomials (11
data), revesible idiomatic binomials (14 data) and non idiomatic binomials (1
data), phrasal compound idiom (5 data), incorporating verb idiom (1 data) and
pseud idiom (18). The writer also found 393 data that make the words to be
included as lexemic idioms. All 393 idioms have structural function.
