Tribalism In Adichie's Americanah.

The aim of this study is to point out the kinds of tribalism. The concept of tribalism by Van den Berghe is used in analyzing the data. It also aims to elaborate the effects of tribalism that appears in Adichie’s Americanah. The writer chooses the novel to be analyzed because it got winner of the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, etc. Besides, the writer is known as woman writer of postcolonial works and got many awards.
Since the data are in the form of words, qualitative research design was conducted in this study. The data of this study are the characters’ utterances and narration explanation which contain kinds of tribalism and the effects of tribalism in Adichie’s Americanah. The key instrument of this study is the researcher herself. Read, rereads, collect and mathces the data are the techniques that used in this study.
The results of this study show that the novel, Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, contained four kind of tribalism. Those are Class, Ideology, Region, and Race. Therefore, the novel can be analyzed by using tribalism. The other result is the effects of tribalism. Those are: Rejection, Changing Identity, Corruption, and Deportation. Thus, the story reflects the real life.
