Global Nature Renewal as a Form of Ecological Awareness in Dan Brown's Inferno

This study is aimed to analyze the ecocentrism in Dan Brown’s Inferno. The analysis of this novel uses the theory of Ecocriticism focuses on ecocentrism. The writer chooses this theory because it is the study which examines literary work which focuses on the relationship between human and the physical environment. It can be seen in Dan Brown’s reflective idea through his Inferno that literature is being connected to environmental phenomenon in order to raise the individual awareness toward environmental problem.
This study uses qualitative design. The source of data of this thesis is novel entitled Inferno. The data are words, phrases, and sentences which related to Ecocriticism. The data is analyzed by using ecocentric approach in Ecocriticism.
From the discussion, the potrait of ecocentrism is depicted in the character of Bertrand Zobrist. The data analysis showed that there are two different perspectives toward ecocentrism, they are criticism toward ecocentrism and celebrating ecocentrism. The data analysis also conveys overpopulation as a problem and reforms global population that leads to global nature renewal.
