Abstract
Pada tahun 2008 produksi gula Kristal putih nasional sebesar 2,7 juta ton.
Gula tersebut diproduksi oleh 60 PG (Pabrik Gula) yang terdapat di Indonesia.
Total kebutuhan gula saat itu sebesar 4,46 juta ton per tahunnya. Kebutuhan
tersebut terbagi dua yaitu gula konsumsi rumah tangga sebesar 2,66 juta ton dan
gula rafinasi untuk kebutuhan industri sebesar 1,8 juta ton (Ditjenbun, 2008).
Produksi nasional hanya mampu memenuhi kebutuhan gula konsumsi rumah
tangga, sedangkan kekurangan gula ravinasi dipenuhi dengan cara impor.
