This study focuses on the causative verbs that are found in Jakarta Post Newspaper. This study aims to explain the types of causative verb which are taken from the Jakarta Post Newspaper and the verbs which are used to form causatives.
This study uses Causative Verb theory proposed by Malt 2010. Moreover, this study is conducted by using qualitative design because the data are in the form of words. The data of this study are any sentences in Jakarta Post Newspaper on April 18th, 2015 edition which contain causative verbs. The method to collect the data is observation method with note taking technique. To analyze the data, the writer uses interactive data analysis.
The writer finds 110 data. In terms of the type of causative verbs, 95 belongs to lexical causative and 15 data belongs to periphrastic causative. In terms of the verbs which are functioned as causatives, 68 data belongs to transitive verbs, 42 data belongs to intransitive verbs. From the findings above, the writer can conclude that the most frequently types of causative verb is lexical causative, while the kind of verbs which is mostly utilized as causative is transitive verbs.
